Happy to Help!

A few things have changed in our Gilesgate office!

Last year our catering assistant Alice launched her own bakery business, Alice’s Artisan Bakery, producing artisan bread and baked goods. She has now moved her bakery into our kitchen at Gilesgate.

Alice trained at Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage Chef’s School and worked in the adjoining Canteen and at a top Mediterranean restaurant. It was through these experiences that she developed her love of being in the kitchen. Working at Allendale Bakery she trained in bread baking and perfected her craft before launching her own business in October last year.

Alice currently supplies several local businesses: Deli At No. 4, The Paddock at Rowlands Gill, as well as our very own Hextol Tans. Recently she was recognised as one of the top 5 bread bakers in Northumberland by Foodful, an online food and drink blog.

In addition to running her bakery business Alice is also a valued member of our team here at Hextol. She joined us in 2017, initially in the Hextol Tans, and more recently at our catering kitchen on Gilesgate.  As well as being a skilled chef Alice has a talent for supporting and nurturing the people we work with.

We have exciting plans to develop our catering services for local businesses and Alice is working with our catering manager, Claire, to roll these out over the next few weeks. Watch this space for more details!

It is great to see a young entrepreneur embarking on a new venture and we have been thrilled to be able to help Alice by allowing her to occupy part of our kitchen.

Her energy and commitment, both to her craft and to those to whom we offer working opportunities is an inspiration. Oh – and the aroma of fresh bread coming from the kitchen since she started baking here has been a welcome bonus!

Check out Alice’s facebook page, instagram  and new website for some photos that will definitely make you hungry!
