COVID UPDATE- Closed…for now
First of all, thank you to all of our customers for your patience and support through this uncertain time and we are very excited to see you all again in our café in 2021.
Unfortunately, in line with latest Government guidelines the Tans will remain closed for now but we are planning to reopen on Monday 17th May 2021 . Keep a close eye on our website and social media pages for more updates.
Contact us by phone or email if you have any questions or queries.
When we reopen we will offer sit in and takeaway, offering a reduced menu of our delicious homemade, vegetarian and vegan food. We will still have daily specials, soups, cakes and, of course, our fabulous scones! Our outside tables are now open too! Great for watching the world go by as you enjoy your lunch in the fresh air and they’re dog friendly.
We have put in place extra procedures to protect our staff, volunteers and customers. We are thrilled to see more and more of our volunteers back working in the kitchen and front of house. Shifts have been reduced slightly and work bubbles have been created throughout the Foundation to ensure everyone is working as safely as possible while still providing our excellent services. Precautionary measures include:
- Increased cleaning and sanitising measures in the café and kitchen
- Table service only and we ask customers to wait to be seated
- We recommend card and contactless payments wherever possible
- Fewer tables in the café so customers can socially distance
- Maximum groups of 6 (unless a larger household)
- Paper/disposable menus for each customer
- Sanitising stations for customers and staff
- Mandatory face coverings unless seated
- NHS Test and Trace QR codes available for customers
We would like to remind our customers that it is now the law to not mix or share tables with people outside of your household or support bubble in these, or any other indoor premises. We will refuse bookings of mixed household groups and may refuse service if these regulations are not respected.
To comply with government guidance we will ask at least one person from each table to give us contact details which we will pass to the Test and Trace service if requested. This is the law and we will never use this information for marketing purposes.
We also ask if you or anyone in your household are suffering symptoms of COVID-19 to please stay at home.
With these changes, service might be slightly slower than usual for the time being so please be patient with us.
Keep an eye on our website and social media pages for updates, new menus and offers! See you all soon!

Visit England and the other tourism boards of the UK and Ireland have partnered together to compile a guide to show what hospitality venues and torist attractions are following current COVID guidelines. This allows customers to visit places around the UK that show the ‘ring of confidence’ without confusion and enjoy their local attractions.
The Tans has been given the stamp of approval showing the new precautions we have put in place in regards to cleaning, social distancing and more (look at our COVID-19 page for more info) are in line with national regulations and we can confidently offer our services to our customers whether they are local or from further afield!
